Got Your Number: Jeffrey Earnhardt Carries the Famous Family Number

By Ben White

Jeffrey Earnhardt, driver of the CTSMC Motorsports Chevrolet, is proud to carry the No. 33 on the sides and top of his bright green Cup series machines. After all, there’s some family ties that date back to when his father, Kerry Earnhardt, ran the number while his building his own driving career in the mid the early 2000s.

In April of 2012, team owner Joe Falk bought the team from Earnhardt’s longtime team owner, Richard Childress. It was chosen because of Dale’s incredible success with the No. 3.

Now, the grandson of seven-time Cup series champion Dale Earnhardt is working on his own career in hopes of carrying on his famous family legacy. His uncle, Dale Earnhardt Jr., will be retiring from Cup series competition at the end of the 2017 season.

“The No. 33 is a number that Joe Falk had has for his Cup team for a little bit,” Jeffrey said. “My Dad (Kerry Earnhardt) drove the number for RCR in the Cup series back in the day. Then Joe Falk has run the number for a few years. So whenever we talked about doing this partnership, we felt the No. 33 would be a great number to use. It was actually the first number I ever raced. Because it was my Dad’s number, I thought it would be cool to run the same one.”
