Driver Profile: Joe Gibbs Racing’s Riley Herbst

Riley Herbst fortunate for chance with JGR

By Joseph Wolkin

Riley Herbst made the swap from the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East to the ARCA Racing Series in 2017. Through 11 contests, the 18-year-old Las Vegas native sits third in points and wants to win the title.

What’s the experience been like of competing in ARCA?

“It’s cool to be running full-time at the big tracks that the Cup guys go to. It’s a lot of fun and I’m learning every day. We’re all really close and work hand-in-hand in everything. I feel like we’ve gotten caught on getting pit strategies and fuel strategies wrong. It’s tough to say what we’re struggling with, but we’re doing well overall.”

NOS Energy came on board with you. What does their support mean to you?

“Everybody at Nos is very helpful and supportive. They basically put this program together for us. I can’t thank them enough. I wouldn’t be here without them. They put this together with JGR to form an ARCA team for us.”

What are your expectations for the rest of the year?

“I think we can win a lot more races. It’s going to be good. We need to run the right strategies. We need to be on the right end of the fuel strategies.”
