A Family’s Dream
Cody Ware Races with His Father’s Team
By Joseph Wolkin
Cody Ware is doing something he never thought of – compete in NASCAR’s premier division. Well, thanks to his father’s team, Rick Ware Racing, the 21-year-old is accomplishing a new goal with each left turn he makes.
Did you ever think you would have the chance to compete in the Cup Series?
“It’s always a dream, like a thought and a goal, that you want to reach. Getting to race in the Cup Series is a pretty surreal experience. Getting to do it, even though we’re on a budget, is something I’m very thankful for. It’s not something I can take for granted because no matter what level you’re at, you’re getting to race against guys like Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch. It’s a very humble and fun experience.”
What does it mean to you to be able to work with your dad?
“It’s a great experience. Over the past several years, when I’ve been racing non-stop alongside of him, not only has he been my father but he’s become my best friend. It’s great to share that common passion with your dad. It’s a very fun and genuine experience. It’s one of the reasons why I love racing so much. It’s very rare that you have this common passion and goal within a family.”
