The Eliminator: Talladega Drives Drivers Insane

By Jared Turner Logano Is Doing Something Special Prior to the start of the Contender Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, it had already been a terrific year for Joey Logano. But in the last three weeks, Logano has taken it up to a whole other level. By making it a clean sweep of the three Contender Round races with wins at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kansas Speedway and Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, the Team Penske driver is the clear favorite to go on and win the championship entering the eight-driver Eliminator Round that begins Sunday at Martinsville Speedway. Junior Deserves Props: Handles NASCAR’s Decision with Class

By Jared Turner Dale Earnhardt Jr. could have jumped up and down and pouted and blamed NASCAR for his failure to win Sunday’s race at Talladega and earn a spot in the next round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. After all, NASCAR’s decision to declare Joey Logano the winner after an official video review, seemed somewhat subjective. Earnhardt’s fans obviously agreed, littering the track with debris while Logano performed a post-race burnout. But what about Junior? Because his victory in the CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway knocked Dale Earnhardt Jr. out of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup—by a matter of inches. When NASCAR threw the third caution of the race moments after the first bona fide attempt at a green-white-checkered-flag restart on Lap 195—with Kevin Harvick’s engine turning sour and cars wrecking behind him—Logano was inches ahead Earnhardt. That call ended the…

Talladega Preview:

By Jared Turner It’s all come down to this. While a dozen drivers are still championship-eligible heading into Sunday’s elimination race at Talladega Superspeedway, only eight will leave the notoriously unpredictable 2.66-mile track still in the title hunt. Among the 12 Chase drivers, only Joey Logano has punched his ticket to the Eliminator 8. Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr., meanwhile, are the only drivers who pretty much have to win at Talladega to advance. With just 20 points separating second-place Denny Hamlin from 10th-place Ryan Newman, it’s impossible to project which drivers will ultimately make it into the next round. And…
