Somebody’s Wrong: NASCAR Officials, Drivers at Odds Over Wrecks

By Jared Turner   So multiple drivers – most notably Chase drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch – were livid after Sunday’s race, claiming the track was not suitable for green-flag racing after an oil cleanup for fluid spilled on the track by Justin Allgaier’s crushed radiator. Shortly after the race restarted following an extended cleanup period, multiple drivers hit the wall and were emphatic that they had run over oil, causing them to lose control of their cars. NASCAR officials later insisted they checked and that there was no oil on the track, however. So who’s telling the truth –…

The Drama Builds: Chase Is Shaping Up For Unique Finish

By Jerry Bonkowski What would happen if this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup came down to two drivers who haven’t won a race in 2015, and two others that have won just one? It’s not out of the realm of possibility heading into the midpoint of the Chase, this Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway. With Jimmie Johnson already eliminated and Matt Kenseth (currently 12th in the standings), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (11th) and Kyle Busch (10th) bringing up the rear of the Chase standings after this past Sunday’s race at Charlotte, it would not surprise me if all of the top drivers…

By Jared Turner Kevin Harvick Is Mr. Clutch What can be said that hasn’t already been about the ability of Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing team to get the job done when their backs are against the wall? Remember last year’s Chase-elimination race at Phoenix and the Championship Race at Homestead? Yeah, Harvick won both. In an all-too-familiar must-win scenario and facing elimination from this year’s Chase, Harvick went out at Dover and beat the field into submission with one of the most dominant performances of his lengthy career. Johnson’s Elimination Proves Winning Isn’t Everything

By Jared Turner Is it really fair for a driver with four wins on the season to be eliminated from title contention with seven races remaining while multiple drivers with nary a win all year still remain in the hunt for the sport’s top prize? That’s the question NASCAR must answer after Sunday’s final race of the Chase Challenger Round. All we’ve heard the past few years is how NASCAR wants to put a greater emphasis on winning. And, to be fair, the sanctioning body has done that with its win-and-you’re-in pathway to earning a spot in the Chase. But what about…
