Just Sayin’: All-Star Race Format Was Confusing

By Jared Turner Stop Changing The All-Star Format Multiple drivers – most notably Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Kenseth – left Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway scratching their heads about a confusing set of rules that resulted in major angst among participants in the popular non-points paying event. Stewart, a three-time Sprint Cup Series champion who was the most outspoken of the bunch, went as far as to call it “the most screwed up All-Star Race ever.” At the center of the controversy was a mandatory green flag pit stop that jumbled up the running order,…

Kenseth holds off Larson to win thriller at Dover

May 15, 2016 By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service DOVER, Del. – Matt Kenseth’s luck took a turn for the better, after Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Chevrolet took a turn that wrecked half the field in Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive for Autism at Dover International Speedway. In a thrilling 35-lap run to the finish that featured Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott in hot pursuit of Kenseth – and of each other – Kenseth manhandled a loose race car to the stripe, arriving .187 seconds ahead of Larson to win his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race of the season. Elliott came home…

Erik Jones dashes to second XFINITY Series win

May 14, 2016 By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service DOVER, Del. – NASCAR’s new Dash 4 Cash format agrees with Erik Jones – even when his No. 20 Toyota is running on older tires. Milestone Moment: Tire Issues at Dover in 1995

By Keith Waltz An 11th-hour decision by Goodyear officials headed off what could have been a disastrous day for NASCAR’s premier series on June 4, 1995, during the Miller Genuine Draft 500 at Dover International Speedway. Racing on the high-banked, one-mile track’s new concrete surface for the first time, teams began seeing signs of tire issues during practice. Those issues turned into problems during Saturday’s 200-mile preliminary event and the decision was made to truck in different tires for Sunday’s race. Track officials had used a grinding process to smooth the new concrete surface after Goodyear had completed its tire test earlier…

Dover Preview: Joe Gibbs Racing Remains on Top

By Jared Turner Winners of five of the past six races, Joe Gibbs Racing is on a roll unlike any seen in a long time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Sunday’s race at Dover International Speedway offers JGR’s competition renewed hope, however. That’s because the last time a JGR driver conquered the “Monster Mile” was 2010, when Kyle Busch went to Victory Lane in his No. 18 Toyota. There have since been 11 winners at Dover, but none have been from the JGR stable. So will this weekend see a non-JGR driver and team at least temporarily put a stop to…
