Danica’s Day: Track Position Costs No. 10 Car

By Aaron Burns Danica Patrick’s finish wasn’t indicative of how competitive she was on Sunday in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Patrick qualified 29th and finished two laps down in 22nd, but it wasn’t as much a product of poor performance as it was a need for better track position. The story in Sunday’s race was the same as the previous week’s event at Charlotte Motor Speedway: If you had track position, you kept it. If you lost it, you didn’t get it back. Patrick didn’t start with good track position and on a track that has proven increasingly difficult…

Dale Jr., Kenseth Are Both in Danger of Elimination

By Jared Turner 5 Lessons Learned At Kansas JoLo Looks Unstoppable While it might not be wise to anoint any one driver as the odds-on championship favorite in such a fluid Chase environment where a guy can go from hero to zero status in just one week, it appears that Joey Logano is only getting stronger the further we go into the season. With his win at Kansas, Logano now has a career-high five triumphs this year. Just as impressive, however, as the number of wins is that they’ve come at a variety of tracks – restrictor plate (Daytona), short track (Bristol),…

Logano vs. Kenseth: All’s Fair in Chase-Racing

By Jared Turner After locking horns with Matt Kenseth at Kansas while battling for the lead in the closing laps, Joey Logano was unapologetic about spinning the Joe Gibbs Racing driver and costing him a win that would have punched Kenseth’s ticket to the next round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. While Kenseth – who was clearly blocking Logano – refused to take any blame for the contact that sent his No. 20 car spinning, Logano refused to offer any regrets. And why should Logano have regrets? When two guys are racing that hard for the lead at such…

Kansas Preview: Many Chase Drivers Want to Seal Berth Before ‘Dega

By Jared Turner After a wild start to the Contender Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, it’s on to Kansas Speedway for Race No. 5 of the Chase and Race No. 2 of three in this round. With Joey Logano having won at Charlotte Motor Speedway and punched his proverbial ticket to the next round, he’s the only one of the 12 remaining title contenders who can breathe easily heading into Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400. The 11 remaining Chase drivers all still have work to do, as none are assured of joining Logano in the Eliminator 8. However, some…

Somebody’s Wrong: NASCAR Officials, Drivers at Odds Over Wrecks

By Jared Turner   So multiple drivers – most notably Chase drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch – were livid after Sunday’s race, claiming the track was not suitable for green-flag racing after an oil cleanup for fluid spilled on the track by Justin Allgaier’s crushed radiator. Shortly after the race restarted following an extended cleanup period, multiple drivers hit the wall and were emphatic that they had run over oil, causing them to lose control of their cars. NASCAR officials later insisted they checked and that there was no oil on the track, however. So who’s telling the truth –…

The Drama Builds: Chase Is Shaping Up For Unique Finish

By Jerry Bonkowski What would happen if this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup came down to two drivers who haven’t won a race in 2015, and two others that have won just one? It’s not out of the realm of possibility heading into the midpoint of the Chase, this Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway. With Jimmie Johnson already eliminated and Matt Kenseth (currently 12th in the standings), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (11th) and Kyle Busch (10th) bringing up the rear of the Chase standings after this past Sunday’s race at Charlotte, it would not surprise me if all of the top drivers…
