Fuel strategy gives Carl Edwards first win at Charlotte

May 24, 2015 By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service CONCORD, N.C. – Will the mystery winner of Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600 enter and sign in please? Hint: It’s the guy who does back flips every time he takes the checkered flag. But for the first 370 of 400 laps at Charlotte Motor Speedway, no one would have picked Carl Edwards or his No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota as the likely winner of the season’s 12th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch and Denny Hamlin had spent the lion’s share of time at the head of the field,…

Almirola Enjoys Racing For “The King” of NASCAR

By Ben White The number 43 is widely associated with seven-time champion Richard Petty. The winner of 200 Cup races enjoyed an incredible career as a driver from 1958 to 1992. Coca-Cola 500 Preview: The Ultimate Endurance Test

By Jared Turner In stark contract to last weekend’s Sprint All-Star Race, a 110-lap affair that practically feels like it’s over before it starts, this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 is an endurance test unrivaled by any other event on the annual Sprint Cup calendar. Six hundred miles and 400 laps, the Coca-Cola 600 is 100 miles longer than any other race on the Sprint Cup schedule. It begins at 6 p.m. – in the heat of the day – and ends some four-and-a-half hours later in the cool of the night. Being fast at the start doesn’t mean a driver will be fast…

All-Star Swan Song: Gordon Gets a Hero’s Welcome

By Aaron Burns Jeff Gordon’s final Sprint All-Star Race was solid if unspectacular last Saturday, but the importance attached to the event made it memorable. Gordon was introduced last during driver introductions at Charlotte Motor Speedway and met with a chorus of cheers that nearly rivaled those for teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. Gordon, if you didn’t know, used to draw cheers at Charlotte only when he wrecked or pulled into the garage early. Those times are long gone. On Saturday, fans held up “Thank you, Jeff” No. 24 cards as he walked onto the stage with his family and crew. Gordon hoped…
