By Holly Cain NASCAR Wire Service NASCAR announced Thursday an initial short-term schedule, beginning with a NASCAR Cup Series race May 17 at Darlington Raceway, to mark the return to the track for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic brought sports to a halt in the middle of March. Eckes wins inaugural IceBox Pickup Throwdown Series race at virtual Texas Motor Speedway

On Thursday evening, more than 12,000 NASCAR fans tuned in to see 19-year-old Christian Eckes earn $500 in prize money for winning the inaugural IceBox Pickup Throwdown Series race at virtual Texas Motor Speedway. Eckes’ victory in the Gen-Y Hitch 100 came after he took the lead from rival Chase Briscoe on Lap 96.
