Just Sayin’: Junior Nation Is Looking For More From Gordon

By Jared Turner A Gordon Win Would Boost Junior Nation While Dale Earnhardt Jr. has sat out with concussion-like symptoms, Jeff Gordon has not surprisingly delivered solid performances in Junior’s place. But Gordon, a four-time Sprint Cup Series champ who retired from full-time driving at the end of last year, hasn't been stellar. Gordon’s best finish in three races as Earnhardt’s sub is 13th. Although he’s completed every lap of competition run during his time in Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevy, Gordon has not led a lap. So is it puzzling that one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers of all time has been so…

Justin Marks scores first career XFINITY Series victory at Mid-Ohio

Aug. 13, 2016 By Chris Knight NASCAR Wire Service LEXINGTON, Ohio – Not even a caution with four laps remaining in Saturday’s Mid-Ohio Challenge could detour road course expert Justin Marks from scoring his first career NASCAR XFINITY Series victory at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Marks, driver of the No. 42 Katerra Chevrolet Camaro, withstood a rain-soaked challenge from Sam Hornish Jr on the final restart, but Marks showcased his road racing skills when it counted most and stretched his lead to 3.7 seconds when the checkered flag flew. “These are as tough conditions as you can put drivers in,” said Marks…

Hamlin wins combustible classic in front of sold-out Watkins Glen

August 7, 2016 By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Denny Hamlin, winner of Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at the Glen, entertained a sold-out grandstand with a celebratory burnout that trailed a plume of smoke the entire length of the frontstretch at Watkins Glen International. But Hamlin’s smoke show—with a bad back, no less—paled in comparison to the fireworks that preceded the checkered flag, Hamlin’s first at a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series road course. The race was in doubt until the final corner, with Martin Truex Jr. pressuring Hamlin, who led the final 10 laps after surging past Brad Keselowski…

Logano breaks Team Penske drought with XFINITY win at Watkins Glen

Aug. 6, 2016 By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service WATKINS GLEN, N. Y. – Joey Logano finally finished what he started. The driver of the No. 12 Ford won Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Watkins Glen International from the pole, giving Team Penske its first victory in what has been a disappointing season so far. The win in the Zippo 200 was the second straight at the 2.45-mile road course for the 26-year-old driver, who led 67 of 82 laps and drove his car to the limit, keeping teammate Brad Keselowski behind him until a broken track bar mount forced Keselowski’s…

My First Ride: Dale Inman’s 1949 Oldsmobile

By Ben White Dale Inman, an eight-time Sprint Cup championship crew chief and 2012 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, bought a popular ride in the early 1950s that had a rather unique history. It was used as a major part of a local business enterprise before he found it for sale after his 16th birthday in August of 1952. The car traveled all around the countryside in the dark of night for several years before its wheels parked in the dirt driveway of the Inman family home in Level Cross, N.C. “With the help of my mother, the first car I ever…
